When her friends cancel their annual midweek away at the last minute, sixty-year-old Andrea asks her lesbian daughter Joosje to come with her to the luxury vacation bungalow in Katwijk. Joosje has past event home with burnout for six months and doesn't want to disappoint her mother again. But because a midweek alone with her mother seems like hell on earth to her, she persuades her best friend Laurens to come along. And now the three of them are in rainy Katwijk. Joosje can only sleep, Laurens tries to please everyone and Andrea had imagined it all very differently.
When Andrea finds the manuscript of Joosje's debut novel in her purse, the luxurious bungalow turns into a verbal battlefield even before dessert and not even Laurens' culinary delights can save the soured atmosphere.
Katwijk sketches an intimate portrait of two generations who want to understand each other, but don't get it, with the aim: to bring them closer together. "It is beautiful how the makers refuse to take sides and make tangible how both mother and daughter actually yearn for the acceptance and appreciation of the other." (NRC ★★★★)
Queer top theatre
After rave reviews and the selection for the Nederlands Theater Festival of their previous performance Who's Afraid of Oscar Wilde, but above all the audience response, Compagnie Red Yellow Yellow & Blue continues their mission with Katwijk to create queer top theater for a wide audience.
With accessible, intelligently written comedies, the company takes you via laughter to pain points that deserve more attention. Pain points between people, in society and on the world play. The makers want to entertain, chafe, move and connect and are committed to representing groups and perspectives that are underexposed.
