The United Ukrainian Ballet Company consists of 60 refugee dancers who have sought refuge in The Hague since the outbreak of war. In the past year, the company has danced, with great success, on all major dance stages throughout the world. Together with artistic director Igone de Jongh and Rinus Sprong, the company has put together an impressive ballet gala with works that show the beauty, strength and resistance of the Ukrainian dancers.

Among other choreographies, you will see the fairytale Les Sylphides (composed by Frédéric Chopin) and the spectacular Hopak, in which the Ukrainian dancers’ jumping power rates world class. And perhaps most importantly, you will see wonderful international soloists: all dancers who are part of this special company.

Over United Ukrainian Ballet
Op 24 februari 2022 begon de aanval van Rusland op Oekraïne. De twee balletdansers Stanislav Olshanskyi en Alexis Tuttunique, op dat moment op tournee met de Nederlandse prima ballerina Igone de Jongh, werden door de oorlog overvallen en zochten met de hulp van Igone de Jongh, Matthijs Bongertman (Senf) hun toevlucht in dansstad Den Haag. Zij riepen andere dansprofessionals uit Oekraïne op hen te vergezellen. Inmiddels hebben ruim zestig professionals van verschillende gezelschappen elkaar gevonden. Gezamenlijk vormden zij een nieuw gezelschap: The United Ukrainian Ballet. Samen met producent Matthijs Bongertman zorgde Igone de Jongh ervoor dat The United Ukrainian Ballet Foundation, gesteund door vele Nederlandse partners en fondsen, werd opgericht. Om te kunnen blijven dansen en om de Oekraïense cultuur levend te houden, zolang de oorlog voortduurt.
