I AM ROOM 15

They would walk for hours, some would lie in bed - arms entwined - for days, some would make diamond paintings of dolphins, some would only communicate by knocking on their bathroom wall, some would secretly start an app group, one of them got his first kiss.

IK BEN KAMER 15 moves between audio documentary and theater. The performance is about life in a psychiatric clinic. About and with people who meet at their most vulnerable and how rare wonderful that can be. About people for whom continuing to exist every day is a heroic act. About people who didn't know that falling so diep existed.

Over 1.5 million people receive mental health care in the Netherlands, the highest numbers ever. Yet many stigmas still rest on people who are "crazy," people with anxiety, depression sufferers. I AM ROOM 15 opens windows into our thinking about these people and the system they one day fell out of. In this performance, we check the colorful mini-society in a psychiatric clinic. A society of wacky, very ordinary people.
