In this new co-production by Zero Dance Theatre and the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra, sound and movement are unraveled and reloaded with meaning

Six dancers and six musicians form one breathing body that moves, rubs and echoes. Dance and music circle around what was once animate but now feels empty. The music moves between new compositions and influences from musical heritage from Granada to Baghdad, including percussion, ud and violin as supporting voices. In the intuitive movement language, hip-hop and contemporary dance merge into one recognizable, hybrid form. This creates one common language in which sound becomes movement and movement becomes rhythm.

Ghosts interweaves body, music and memory into a living ritual. The audience becomes witness to a quest for inspiration. For that which slumbers beneath the surface, refusing to disappear. From whisper to eruption, dancers and musicians search for what lurks behind rituals that have lost their origin, forming new meanings. For in our rituals lies our cultural memory; they carry the roots of who we are.
