This dance performance builds on the universe of Conny Janssen's earlier performance HOME, which focused on the question of what makes us feel connected. Conny Janssen Danst's diverse and adventurous ensemble of dancers brings this quest to life with an intensity that both moves and confronts. With her signature choreographic signature, a powerful mix of raw energy and hushed poetry, Conny Janssen creates a universe in which personal stories and universal questions meet.
The live music of the Dutch-Moroccan artist Roufaida is the beating heart of the performance. Her layered sound, in which North African influences, alternative pop and poetic lyrics come together, deepens the theme and enhances the emotional power of the dance.
About Conny Janssen Danst
Conny Janssen Danst has past event one of the leading modern dance companies in the Netherlands since 1992. The Rotterdam company is widely known for the strong physical and theatrical strength of its dancers and the surprising diversity of its performances, in which pure dance is colored with a human touch. Motto of artistic director Conny Janssen: in a world that is becoming increasingly harsh and inhuman, we must make room for personal stories. She draws her inspiration from metropolitan life: a fast-paced and vital world full of diversity.
Conny Janssen received several awards for her oeuvre. Minister Ingrid van Engelshoven awarded the Golden Swan to Conny Janssen in 2019: the prestigious oeuvre prize was awarded for the great contribution her work has made to Dutch dance. In 2023, Conny Janssen received the honorable Prize of Merit from Dansersfonds '79. The jury of this important dance award praised the Rotterdam choreographer and artistic director for the "love, enthusiasm and powerful vision" with which she leads the company and HUIS Conny Janssen Danst.
About Roufaida
Groundbreaking, poetic and activist- Roufaida is a pop artist who is constantly exploring new ideas with her music. Drawing inspiration from her North African roots and Arabic poetry, she translates the challenges of our time into unconventional melodies and metaphorical lyrics. Influenced by innovative artists such as Rosalía, Björk and Arooj Aftab, the Dutch-Moroccan singer combines different traditions and transforms them into something new. In 2025, she released her debut album Coming Up For Air. Roufaida broke through in 2023 with the Roufaida EP, which includes such standout tracks as Don't Bend, featuring the special sound of the Moroccan guembri, and Kalimat, inspired by the poem of the same name by Syrian poet Nizar Qabbani. The EP received international attention and brought her to stages in the Benelux, Germany and Morocco. She performed at festivals such as Down The Rabbit Hole, Lowlands, Into The Great Wide Open and Noorderslag, and shared the play with artists such as Xavier Rudd, Balthazar, Melody Gardot and Eefje de Visser. The EP received high praise and was nominated for two Edison Awards.
