Whether it’s with friends in the schoolyard, with your grandma in the kitchen, quietly under your desk, shamelessly in front of the mirror, or just inside your head. Everyone dances sometimes.  But who decides how you dance? Who chooses our rhythm? Why is one person allowed to move a certain way and another isn’t? Is there such a thing as the “right” dance? And what is dance, anyway?

A group of kids has organized a dance afternoon for adults. A space where you can move together and be whoever you want to be. There’s voguing, salsa, breakdancing, gabber, hip-hop, shuffling, TikTok dancing, and stomping. Being yourself turns out to be no easy feat for the adults. Sometimes you’re “ af,” sometimes too old, not good enough, and sometimes not welcome. Why is that, anyway?

Five performers try to dance their way to freedom through all sorts of dazzling and absurd attempts—free from expectations and ideas about how you’re supposed to be.

With humor, music, and lots of movement, *AND NOW WE’RE GOING TO GO COMPLETELY OFF THE RAILS* (a top-notch show) explores how we navigate society. An anarchistic performance about freedom, self-expression, peer pressure, and the desire to resist.

CAST WITH CHILDREN
In every city, the professional cast is joined by a group of local children who perform in the show. A top-notch musical show by Maas Theater en Dans and Acteursgroep Wunderbaum for everyone who doesn’t want to be told how to do things.

Director Marleen Scholten (Wunderbaum): “Dance is a metaphor for how we navigate society. In an increasingly hostile world, where people are criticized for who they are and what they stand for, we want to pay tribute to personal freedom and authenticity. With humor and love, we tackle this complex theme and have invited children to join in. Because, ultimately, dance is moving to music. And everyone should have the right to do it however they want.”

This performance replaces *Huisje Boompje Beestje*. Maas Theater and Dance has announced that, unfortunately, this production cannot be staged.
