Why anger sometimes feels bigger than yourself. Kakek, Grandpa & Me is a magical realistic family performance full of puppetry, live music and hidden stories about origins, memories and healing.

Sometimes it feels like a storm lives in Novi's chest. No one knows why. One day she flees to the attic, a place full of boxes, yellowed photographs and the smell of long ago. There, two mysterious figures appear and disappear into old photo books. Novi jumps after them.

In Kakek, Opa & Ik Novi travels through the hidden stories of her family. Through photo books, letters and forgotten melodies, she delves into the past. What begins as a playful voyage of discovery grows into a magical journey through her family history and a shared colonial past of the Netherlands and Indonesia that still resonates in the present.

Along the way, Novi discovers that the anger she feels may be older than herself. That emotions can travel from generation to generation. And that understanding sometimes starts with looking, listening and feeling.

Kakek, Opa & Ik is a moving and visually rich performance about heritage, memories and the power of imagination.
