Everyone knows his escape in the book chest, but why was Hugo de Groot actually imprisoned? How much do you risk to be allowed to say what you think?

In this musical full of pop rock music, this well-known chapter in our history turns out to be more topical than ever. What is freedom worth if you only get it if you adapt? What price are you willing to pay for peace?

In a country where faith and politics clash, Hugo chooses tolerance and freedom of thought. In doing so, he makes himself an enemy and loses his own freedom. When Hugo is imprisoned in Castle Loevestein, his voice seems to be forever stifled. Thanks to the courage and resourcefulness of his wife Maria, a plan emerges and the rest is history.

Hugo de Groot, the musical is a compelling story about freedom, doubt and the courage to give others space. What if freedom begins with you?
