In The Current , dance, electronic music and space merge into an intense collective experience. Audience and performers share one pulsating landscape in which club culture, physical surrender and connection are central. An immersive performance that balances between individual position and the power of the group.

The Current is part of The Human Odyssey, an ongoing artistic trajectory that explores how people create meaning and connection through collective physical experiences.

Bringing the physical and cultural codes of club culture to the play, the performance approaches raving as embodied resistance and an expression of freedom. In an electronic environment, performers reconstruct a night where pain, trauma and segregation are left on the dance floor as they move toward liberation and a shared release.

NITE actor and singer Sarah Janneh interprets texts by South African author Ronelda S. Kamfer. Live percussion and electronic music by producer Max Frimout and Stanislav Tolkachev combine to create an intense soundscape.

In an immersive installation by Boris Acket, the audience moves through a dynamic labyrinth of spaces where dancers, musicians and spectators come together. This creates an experience where individuality and collective movement are in constant tension with each other.

The title The Current refers to a movement that can be resisted or carried along. An invisible field of tension that connects, while each position remains part of a greater whole.

The dance language is inspired by high-energy styles such as the 1990s gabber scene: direct, rhythmic and relentless, with fast repetitive footwork. The bouncy, energetic movement vocabulary of K-pop is also explored from a contemporary artistic perspective.

  • The Current features strobe lights, smoke, and loud music.
  • Please note: The Current is an immersive performance in which the audience stands and moves around the space throughout the entire show.
