About Rigoletto
At the court of the Duke of Mantua, court jester Rigoletto uses his sharp tongue to mock others. But when he humiliates a nobleman, he is cursed - an ominous prophecy that touches him diep and won't let go.
From that moment on Rigoletto is driven by one overriding fear: losing his daughter Gilda. His intense fatherly love makes him determined to protect her from the depraved world around them. But when Gilda falls in love with the charming but untrustworthy Duke, the curse seems inevitably to become a reality. What follows is a gripping tale of love, protection and loss - in which fate strikes mercilessly.
Giuseppe Verdi' s music is powerful, compelling and instantly recognizable. With famous arias such as La donna è mobile and Caro nome, this opera knows how to touch from the very first note. It is precisely the combination of intimate emotion and dramatic tension that makes Rigoletto ideally suited to the personal setting of The Dining Opera.
