Based on the well-known fairy tale about Cinderella , this is a heartwarming comic opera for young and old. Director Lysanne van Overbeek shows that Cinderella does not wait to be rescued; she takes her fate into her own hands.

Poor Cinderella has to scrub and clean all day, while her two nuffy stepsisters perform nothing. When one day a poor slob comes to the door, Cinderella shows her good heart by giving him food. And now let that tramp be Prince Ramiro's counselor in disguise....

This opera masterfully combines comic scenes with moving and magical moments, and Rossini's music is exuberant and accessible. Although the story does not quite match Grimm s fairy tale or the Disney film, the opera has a wonderfully romantic happy ending.
