About friendship, anger and saying sorry

Something has happened. Anne has done something that cannot be undone. Anne, 11 years old, says sorry anyway is a recognizable and sharp performance about friendship, anger and how complicated saying sorry can be.

"I don't think it's so bad. I mean no, it wasn't very clever of me, I admit. But there are two sides to every story. So it depends how you look at it. Yes I did something bad but I did it for a reason. Action, reaction. It is easy to make me the villain. But who actually started this."

Something happened. Anne has done something. Her friend is in the hospital and Anne has to say sorry from her mother. What began as a rock-solid friendship slowly changes. Disappointment. Distrust. Growing apart. Until suddenly you are diametrically opposed and get so angry that you do something you can't reverse.

Anne, 11 years old, says sorry anyway is about friendship and about how quickly we form an image of someone. About what happens when that image is no longer correct. About how small cracks can grow into a rift and how you can end up opposing each other without knowing exactly why.

The performance is based on conversations with children. They find friendship complicated. Who belongs. Who is listened to. Who is chosen. Vulnerability plays a big role, but is often not allowed to be visible. This is a performance about polarization on a micro level. About clashes, misunderstandings and the moments when you no longer know how to reach each other.

After the successful Anne, 10 years, wants to be picked up and Anne, 12 years, becomes a big success, this is the third from the Anne trilogy created by Annemiek Nienhuis and played by Anne van der Steen.
