A seemingly loving relationship that slowly tilts: In Yes-Girl, Gavin-Viano combines music, dance and performance to create a raw, poetic theater experience about love, misogyny and femicide in the Netherlands.

How can a youthful infatuation be so derailed that it ends in femicide? Yes-Girl shows how widespread misogyny seeps into an individual relationship between a young woman (Morena Stuger), who wants to spread her wings, and a man (Gavin-Viano) whose increasing insecurity manifests itself in urge for control.

Yes-Girl is a fairy tale, a nightmare and an indictment all in one. About the search for love and self-development, about intuition being ignored and skewed male-female relationships. About disconnecting from your environment and the importance of self-worth. And about what happens when that is slowly eroded.

  • Excluding consumption
  • Performed in English. Please note: This performance contains flashing lights and imagery of domestic and sexual violence against women.

About Gavin-Viano
In the summer of 2020, Gavin-Viano af as a director from the Toneelacademie Maastricht. He received the 2020 DNA Next Incentive Award for his graduation performance Ach My Third Half.

With his performances, he seeks to engage communities that are not naturally given a voice in order to make Dutch theater more accessible. He brings this about by telling non-Western stories, often opting for an anti-white-male-gaze perspective and consciously looking for the intersectionality of his personages. In this way, he creates a world in which language, movement and music flow together into a whole and where humor forms the cement between the building blocks.

Gavin-Viano has past event with Frascati Productions since 2021. With his first Frascati production, he developed Ach Mijn Wederhelft into a trilogy. The second Frascati production Bloodscent was selected for The Dutch Theater Festival.
