Holy houses fall and cardboard worlds unfold, while genders change in a blink of an eye. Rich in androgynous costumes, spectacular sets and with dazzling live music, Offenbach's operetta classic, the greatest punk of the 19th century, comes to life as a theatrical pop concert.
Romboïdal, grand marshal of the Count of Tulip Town, blames his wife Théodorine for the boyish behavior of their daughter Hermosa. Prince Alexis, on the other hand, turns out to be remarkably gentle and gracious. While these two are madly in love with each other, they discover that their parents conceived their lives just a little differently. Confusion is everywhere and complete, except for Hermosa and Alexis, who just love each other as they are. As such, Tulip Town is a joyful plea for being who you are and, of course, for love!
Offenbach's timeless melodies are given fresh, pointed arrangements by Marijn van Prooijen, in which punk af pops delightfully through the operetta. The music is played live by musicians who provide a sparkling bridge between 1868 and today. An irresistible mix of operetta, punk and cardboard magic: Tulip Town is a dazzling feast for the eye as well as the ear.
