After a life full of booze, drugs and men, 60 years ago one of France's greatest artists died: Edith Piaf. Now, far after her death, her songs are still being listened to and sung all over the world. Songs such as Non, Je ne regrette rien, La Vie En Rose, Milord and Padam are just a few immortal examples from an impressive repertoire of songs.
This performance is about the life and death of 'the little sparrow'. Through stories and her unforgettable music, the phenomenal Piaf relives several important moments of her life. She discovers who she was and finds out what it is that she is leaving behind.
The story behind the legend
Edith Piaf has just died. And she is very confused. This is not what she wanted. This is not what she had ever imagined. She was supposed to die in Paris with a priest at her bedside. Not in some hamlet. Newly deceased, the confused Piaf encounters four characters. The Angel. The Devil. The Fool. And Death. Then it turns out that her husband Theo Sarapo listened carefully to her. He has called an ambulance and he lies to the driver that Edith is asleep. The trip is a long one. Almost a thousand kilometers. Piaf insists to her four life companions that she is not dead as long as she is not in Paris. And as long as she does not know what she is leaving behind. Thus, for the duration of the trip to Paris, she is stuck with these four passengers, each of whom has left an indelible impression on her existence. Piaf wants to know where these four were in her life. Through their stories and the unforgettable music of Edith Piaf, the legend relives several important moments in her life to discover who she was and to find out what it is that she is leaving behind.
Suzan Seegers is back in her Musical Award-winning role of Edith Piaf.
