After the success of the Efteling musical Efteling tells... Joris and the Dragon, the Efteling brings a new and exciting story to the Dutch theaters: the story of Baron 1898.

In the family musical Baron 1898, young Jochem and the traveler Gustav meet in the inn of a small village on the Zompige Heide. Gustav is on his way to his great love in a distant land and fervently tells Jochem about his adventures. Upon his departure, Jochem helps him cross the dangerous Zompige Heide.

Several years later, Gustav returns to the inn. No longer as an adventurer, but as the greedy Baron Hooghmoed. He has changed since he discovered that gold can be found diep in the soil of the Zompige Heide. Blinded by the glint of gold, everything must give way: his great love, the nature surrounding the Zompige Heide, Jochem. Everything.

Will the baron destroy the Zompige Heide to satisfy his hunger for gold? Will Jochem realize in time that it is up to him to save his village and nature? And who are those elusive singing figures that emerge from the mist at dusk?
