Trotse Kameraden rades make Eindhoven shine

A retrospect on a special evening full of connection, guts and zest for life.

On June 15, 2025, the Hertog Jan Zaal was packed to the brim: More than 500 people came to check Trotse Kameraden,” an inclusive theater project in which Eindhoven residents aged 55 and older share their stories on play. The participants were beaming—both on play and off. An afternoon that will resonate for a long time to come.

The photos below show how the afternoon came to life. From the first meetings in the wings to the moments on play: each photo tells its own story. About excitement and relief, about teamwork and pride. Together they paint a picture of a performance that meant a lot - to those who took part and to those who came to watch. The photographs were taken by Bea Straver, who captured the afternoon in a narrative manner.

Backstage: nerves, make-up and warm embraces

Four stories came together in one performance. Four theater groups, four personal dreams, bundled into one moving theater experience.

On play:

Together
And they still dream
Not big, bombastic or loud
But small and precious
A garden in bloom
A family day
Finishing the painting for her daughter
And hang it in her home
Holding each other till the end
Seeing our Henk one more time
Visiting my brother in Australia
One more season with Trotse Kameraden

Connection is not a thread that grows larger with age.
It is a root that grows deeper and deeper
Tangled under the ground
Of shared time
For love, dreams, hopes, faith and
Connection truly connect
That knows no retirement or aging
And runs on foundation
There, we do it on"

Words that stick
In addition to the four theater groups, spoken word artist Carmen was also on play. In a personal and powerful reading, she gave words to aging, to memories that remain and to the value of sharing. Her performance brought everything together: the stories, the people and the moment.

Trotse Kameraden showed how powerful it is when people of different ages and backgrounds come together to play, tell and share. A performance that not only originated on theatre, but also left its mark beyond.

Cooperation that connects
Trotse Kameraden is an initiative of Vitalis, Carte Blanche, CKE and Parktheater Eindhoven. Together they are committed to anchoring art and culture sustainably in elderly care and giving space to stories that may be heard.

At Trotse Kameraden everyone is welcome-experience with acting is not necessary. This inclusive company is all about connection: together, participants create a performance in which personal stories, wisdom and life experiences come to life. Pride, because everyone gets the space to do their best and share it with the audience. Camaraderie, because together you create something special.
