In a full-length comedy musical, the audience is taken into the eventful life of Aletta Jacobs. A woman who was so far vooruit her time that she simply did not understand the restrictions imposed on her. Her pleasant lack of awe of the established order makes for a story as passionate as it is witty.

ALETTA de musical is a lively show with new music, accompanied by an all female band. Entertainment and content meet in this highly topical story about one of the most important and inspiring figures in Dutch history. Aletta Jacobs.

Desi van Doeveren will play the lead in ALETTA de musical musical. In addition to Desi van Doeveren (known from Onze Jordaan and Showponies, among others), Gaia Aikman(Aida, The Lion King) will appear as Carrie Chapman Catt, an American champion of women's suffrage and 'partner in crime' of Aletta Jacobs. Other soloists in ALETTA de musical are also Eva Van der Gucht, Kees Boot, Jacob de Groot and Valentijn Benard.

Aletta Jacobs
The life of Aletta (1854-1929) can rightly be called breathtaking. She studied medicine at a time when university was forbidden territory for women. The first female doctor in the Netherlands, she stood up for working-class women and championed contraceptives. She married a progressive politician and lost their only child in childbirth. She was received into the White House as a frontwoman of the international women's movement. And as if that wasn't enough, she became the driving force behind women's suffrage in the Netherlands.
