WIJK1803
WIJK 1803 is an ode to the square in Baghdad where Ali grew up. His solo refers to the square where he played soccer and met wonderful, wandering figures. Every gesture is an echo from the past. An environment that is unsafe and inhospitable to the average Westerner becomes the scene of adventure, imagination and security in this solo. Outlined in a raw and physical dance language.
SAT'EH
SAT'EH is the Arabic word for roof. In Arab cultures, people often gather on the flat roof of their homes, from where they look out over the world. This choreography by Ali is a journey of discovery about who he is and what lives inside him. A longing for that piece of yourself that gives you peace in all the chaos. The finale of the triptych is an echo of Ali's inner world, represented by three dancers.
