"What binds the three performances by graduate students in Het Debuut 2025 is a question of identity. Both 'the queer' and 'the refugee' and 'the woman' are labeled categories that saddle their bearer with an eternal struggle not to lose themselves under that label."

This year in The Debut
Sem Abelskamp with BIBI LOLA
With a laundromat as its setting and the spinning machines as a live orchestra, BIBI LOLA takes you into a passionate and intimate story: about not wanting to hang out the dirty laundry and losing yourself forever in show, glitter and spectacle.
BIBI LOLA is a vulnerable and tragicomic music theater solo about learning to deal with a trauma. A personal performance in which actor Sem Abelskamp introduces you to his alter ego: the phenomenal BIBI LOLA.
Behind the facade is the story of a boy whose life changed completely one night. The trauma he suffered and his desires, dreams, humor and pain lead to a quest of trying to be yourself every day. BIBI LOLA is a reach out to anyone who has ever felt like they were not allowed to participate. If you are not allowed to participate, you must do it yourself.
Sem Abelskamp (2000) studied at the Arnhem theater school ArtEZ. He works from a personal urgency combined with social themes and a good dose of humor. His plays are often about not feeling seen, heard or understood.
Ramez Basheer with RAMLET
Are these your expectations or are these my expectations of your expectations? Playing with expectations and habits, Ramez Basheer searches for his place in the world. He is present, but not sure if he is allowed to be there.
How do you stay true to yourself when your past continues to haunt you? How do you break free from expectations and labels? And how do you find your own voice in a world full of opinions and judgments?
In this autobiographical play, Ramez shares his personal story about identity, self-acceptance and the power to choose your own path. What does it mean to be yourself, while the world keeps redefining you? His story is not an explanation or conclusion - but an exercise. An exercise full of self-mockery, absurdity, tender doubt and unexpected humor.
Ramlet invites you to laugh, to listen, to doubt. Not to understand. Not to solve. But to intermission together to consider what does not yet have a fixed form.
Ramez Basheer (1987) is a Palestinian-Syrian-Dutch actor, a graduate of the Arnhem School of Drama ArtEZ. He has past event living in the Netherlands since 2015. Ramez sees theater as necessary to connect people and make social themes palpable. He likes to experiment and sees art as a continuous journey of discovery.
Neele Kamerbeek & Demi Dijstelberge with LA BLOOD UNDER LA NAILS
Two women in a sterile white room, sharply defined against the surrounding darkness. One speaks the lyrics. The other playsback and embodies the body. Then their worlds converge. The women end up in a trip much like an '80s erotic thriller. In this surreal, ominous, yet mundane world, the women seek their freedom, while the space gets bloodier and bloodier.
Immerse yourself in a visual and emotional experience reminiscent of the intense style of Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill, the beauty of Charlie's Angels and the psychological surrealist drama of David Lynch. Here the focus is on women as bold aggressors.
La Blood Under La Nails is a bloody, raw and erotic trip in which two women break through their boundaries and are pushed to their limits. An intense performance steeped in violence and desire.
Neele Kamerbeek (2000) and Demi Dijstelberge (2002) studied at the performance course of the Toneelacademie Maastricht. They are both multidisciplinary makers. Inspired by each person's inner struggle, they create a visual world in which elements of violence, sensuality, absurdity and beauty recur.
