We’ve never left.
We are like herpes.
Like a virus for decades
slumbering in the nervous system of democracy,
giving the impression of being totally absent,
but then,
at the first sign of weakness in the immune system,
in full glory,
emerging.

Can fascism teach us anything? Of course, fascism has become the most reprehensible sort of political system, but if we return to the core of how fascism was once intended, there may be lessons to be learned from it. Admit it: democracy is slow, and we lack strong leaders with overarching visions and total solutions.

Michela Murgia, Italian writer and political activist wrote the book at the end of 2018: How to be a Fascist. A book that caused quite a stir in Italy.

In this theater performance, based on that book by Michela Murgia, Theo Maassen dares to disconnect fascism from its contaminated past, and look at fascism as a method: not so crazy. Theo Maassen needs no introduction. Het Zuidelijk Toneel and Theo Maassen have joined forces to create a theater performance – not a cabaret but a precarious exercise in an intimate setting.
