The stage as a meeting place. That is the starting point of The Square, a new series of performances by Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, created by emerging talent.

In this second edition, an international company of young dance makers and an experienced musician go on an adventure together. Mario Bermudez Gil (Spain) gets his inspiration from different cultures and rituals, Antonin Comestaz (France) makes playful pieces with his absurdly comic view on life and Gong XingXing (China) is seen as a great promise with her theatrical dance in her own country.

The basis for The Square2 is laid by the music of Richard van Kruysdijk. From minimalistic to propulsive, with an arsenal of electronics, he makes collages with elements from dance and ambient. In The Square2, he builds intuitive sound worlds, together with the dancers and choreographers, that propel the dance forward.

  • The Square1 was previously seen online
  • Stroboscopic light is used during this performance

“Met The Square2, laat Scapino Ballet weer sterk en consequent uitvoerend werk zien.”
