What does it do to your relationship if you suffer the greatest imaginable loss together? The memorable, raw bestseller that A.F.Th. van der Heijden wrote about the loss of his 21-year-old son Tonio, has now been adapted for the theater.
In this performance, the parents’ search for how to survive through this together stands central. How can you continue to connect and support each other when bitter emotions such as sadness, anger and despair make their appearance? While the mother tries with all her might not to slip away into grief, the father hangs on to the gathering and recording of facts. Does the loss drive the parents apart, or will they be able to comfort each other?
adaptation and direction Ignace Cornelissen / featuring Porgy Franssen, Jacqueline Blom, Lisa Zweerman e.a.
More than 200,000 copies of Tonio were sold. The book won the Libris literature prize in 2012. The film version of Paula van der Oest from 2016 achieved the golden film status and was voted the best book film of 2017 by the Dutch public.
