Stephen Shropshire’s choreographies are highly appreciated internationally for their musical sensibility and athletic, virtuoso language of movement. In October 2017, he won the Special Prize from the Dansersfonds '79 for "consistent aesthetic harmony in his work and the close relationship with the selected music." For his latest choreography, Shropshire was inspired by the eighteenth-century cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach. In Shropshire's Cantata, the dancer and the music enter into a relationship in which the essential aspects of human existence are revealed in a touching way.
