Body as a Weapon is a dance and multimedia solo inspired by grand parades called “Spartakiada” practiced in Czechoslovakia in the times of Socialism. These parades united thousands of people synchronized in unison choreography, demonstrating the idea of peace and community on one hand, political power on the other.

This solo performance of athletic and rhythmic action examines the cultural and historical context of Eastern European socialist propaganda and highlights the use of female body as a tool for political domination.

Over de maker
Sandra is een in Slowakije geboren danser en choreograaf uit Amsterdam en wordt momenteel ondersteund door Fonds Podiumkunsten binnen de Nieuwe Makers Regeling in samenwerking met Theater De Generator in Leiden. Na het behalen van haar MFA in Dans aan het Sarah Lawrence College (New York, 2016), dook Sandra Kramerová voor inspiratie in haar Oost-Europese achtergrond. Haar werk is fysiek en confronterend en maakt van verschillende disciplines en media gebruik om tot uiting te komen. Body as a Weapon, werd door Het Parool geroemd als een van de beste voorstellingen van het jaar 2020.
