Naar de overkant van de nacht

During a long, alcohol-drenched night, 40-year-old road worker Ralf tries to get his life back on track… or rather, derail it. He lives in the West but comes to Venlo to celebrate Carnival.

For the first time in five years, he is away from home, away from the intensive care he provides for his girlfriend Sara's family. What does he learn during that alcohol-infused night of togetherness, warmth and merry foolishness? Wandering around in a wonderful daze, he looks at his life and how he has lost himself. It is one man’s lonely immersion in an overwhelming party, hoping to emerge purified again.

Afslag Eindhoven presents a moving and gripping performance that exposes a deeper layer of carnival: the physical ritual of reflection. Naar de overkant van de nacht is a monologue written by Frans Pollux, based on the novel by the same name by Jan van Mersbergen (awarded the BNG New Literature Prize 2011).
