De dappere soldaat is a comic operetta in which three women are waiting for their husbands who are fighting on the front. Steef de Jong inventively combines scenery, images, text, music and performance.

With a cheerful, ironic tone, De Jong gets to the heart of the matter: 'What is worth fighting for?' Nadina sings about her admiration and love for her 'brave hussar'. Suddenly, deserter Bumeri invades her bedroom. In his revolver, he stores chocolates instead of bullets. Charmed by this 'little chocolate soldier', Nadina becomes confused about his idiosyncratic opinion about the nonsense of war. Because what does it really mean to be brave?
