UMA has made experimental music theater in which Surinamese kawina, western 17th century court music, and modern electronic beats flow effortlessly into one another. It turns out, the music made on both sides of the ocean during the same period is very compatible.

In this musical epic, Oroonoko, a young Ghanaian prince struggles with a bleeding heart. He thinks his beloved Imoinda has been murdered. As a ploy, the prince is captured and chained to a WIC ship, where he faces a disastrous future of enslavement. What follows is an unexpected reunion between lovers, unexpected friendships in the Surinamese jungle, and a revolt against human fate.
