Anniek Pheifer and Jeroen Spitzenberger play the lead roles in an adaptation of one of the most beloved plays in the world: The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov. An eight-piece ensemble brings a contemporary version of this timeless story about clinging to the past, fear of the future and a tragic battle with the present.

Actress Lyubov (Anniek Pheifer) returns to her family's estate after a failed career in Paris. Due to high debts, the family property is in danger of being auctioned and, together with her daughters, she does everything she can to avoid bankruptcy. Entrepreneur Lopachin (Jeroen Spitzenberger) has a solution: if they turn the cherry orchard into a holiday park, the family is assured of a stable income. This proposal presents Lyubov with an impossible dilemma. If you want to stay the same, you have to change. But at what price?

After the successful productions Een meeuw (2022), Vrijdag (2021) and Noem het maar liefde (2019), Michel Sluysmans is once again directing a modern interpretation of a well-known stage classic. De Kersentuin, adapted by Jibbe Willems, becomes a hilarious and melancholy portrait of people who see the world changing faster than they can keep up.
