After the success of Woiski vs. Woiski, here’s part two of a musical trilogy about the arrival of a Surinamese family to the Netherlands. De Gliphoeve is a performance full of life force and music, as a basis for survival and breaking through the concrete.

It is 1975. In Suriname, independence is proclaimed. Etta decides to go to the Netherlands with daughter Millie and son Glenn. Full of expectation, energy and humor, she tries to give her children a place in their new homeland. But nobody is waiting for them, there is no work, and there are no houses. They end up in the Gliphoeve, the first flat in the Bijlmermeer to be squatted by a group of Surinamese activists. Despite the concrete, one finds warmth there. But the small family is put to the test.

“A compelling and moving family chronicle, which draws attention to an underexposed period in recent Dutch history.”

NRC

De Gliphoeve was officially selected for the Nederlands Theaterfestival in 2021, and Dionne Verwey was nominated for a Colombina. From the jury report of the Nederlandse Toneeljury: “Verwey shows herself to be an impressively versatile actress in this coming of age story. Her drive, dedication and fun make you want more.”
