For a new project, artist Michiel Voet travels to Algeria to look back on a shared past with his old friend Karim Ramtani in Amsterdam. Ramtani does not show up at the agreed upon place, so Voet decides to look for his friend.

De Vreemdeling is a reconstruction of this road trip through the Sahara. A story about the friendship between an Algerian and a Dutchman. But also about the colonial history of Europe and the lost innocence of the European migration policy that far away, in the Sahel, transcends its own borders.

The Algerian Karim Ramtani lived illegally in Amsterdam for 22 years, and he inspired the artist Michiel Voet to create a photo exhibition and a theater production at Orkater under the title De Onzichtbare Man. From 2014 to 2018, the performance was shown at festivals and theaters in the Netherlands and abroad. Disillusioned, Karim Ramtani returned to Algeria three years ago. The illegal life in Europe offered him no perspective.

Vanwege de aangescherpte corona maatregelen is deze voorstelling definitief geannuleerd.
