Hoe ik talent voor het leven kreeg

Five actors, five musicians and dozens of people with a refugee history tell the penetrating and humorous story of a young man who applies for asylum in the Netherlands. They take you into the sometimes bizarre lives of the people who live and work in the asylum seekers' center and who sometimes get hopelessly entangled in the system.
For this colorful performance, the WAT WE DOEN theater company joined forces with the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra, George & Eran Productions, ICK Amsterdam, and Theater De Meervaart and presents the asylum seekers' center as a village with its own laws and rules. Seen through the eyes of the main character Semmier, the players take the audience into the sometimes bizarre lives of the people who live and work there. They often try to do good for themselves and others, but sometimes get hopelessly entangled in the system.
The performance is based on the book of the same name by Rodaan Al Galidi. In Hoe ik talent voor het leven kreeg, Al Galidi paints a raw and surprisingly funny picture of asylum policy and also of Dutch society. Seen through Semmier's eyes, the audience is taken into the lives of the people who live and work there. They often try to do good for themselves and others, but sometimes get hopelessly entangled in the system.
