An intimate evening with music, conversations and stories. Led by Björn van der Doelen and his band the Huursoldaten, Frank Lammers, Anneke van Giersbergen and Alissa May all give their interpretations of their favorite songs. In the setting of a rehearsal room, in which the coffee pot is on and the bottles of beer are cold, they plop down on the couch next to Björn. They share their personal stories behind the songs and their fascination with their heroes, and play segments in an impromptu pickup, playing the songs in the way that best suits them.
Helden van het Zuiden is a production by Parktheater Eindhoven, Theaterbureau de Mannen and Björn van der Doelen.
Björn van der Doelen
Formerly a professional football player (PSV, Standaard Luik, FC Twente and NEC Nijmegen), Björn van der Doelen from Goirle stopped playing football before he was 30 to start making music, among other things. Now tried and tested, he recently released his latest album Eerwaarde Vader zegen mij want ik heb gezondigd. A theater tour with Karin Bruers and Henk van Straten (2014), a club tour as support act for Guus Meeuwis (2016), a theater tour with his band de huursoldaten (2017 and 2019) and a few hundred performances (since 2007) in large and (damn) small halls, theaters, living rooms and at festivals have all ensured that van der Doelen is now extremely comfortable on stage. A character whose smile is always at hand. Who can tell a story. No poetic bullshit, just true words.
The Mierlo actor Frank Lammers started his career at the Strabrecht College in Geldrop. In 1995, he graduated from the drama school of Amsterdam after which he acted in numerous films. He has since developed into a jack of all trades and can be seen in the theater, in commercials, TV series and short films. Today he is known for his role as Ferry Bouman in the Netflix hit Undercover, from the film Ferry, from Jumbo commercials and from the film Groeten van Gerri.
Anneke van Giersbergen
Anneke van Giersbergen, who comes from Sint-Michelsgestel, has a lot of metronomes. After thirteen years as the front woman for the band The Gathering, she went solo in 2007. Since then, her creativity knows no bounds. The 2012 album Everything is Changing was a milestone in her solo career, receiving two Edison Award nominations in the categories Best Female Artist and Best Album. In 2019, Buma Cultuur honored Anneke with the Buma ROCKS! Export award for most successful Dutch artist abroad in heavy music. In 2021, Anneke will release her new solo album The darkest skies are the brightest.
Alissa May is a power-chick who brings raw pop with attitude. You may know the Eindhoven singer from her participation in The Voice of Holland in 2015. She was also the supporting act for Davina Michelle's Skyward club tour.
