Vrijdag by Hugo Claus is one of the most moving plays in the Dutch language. A thrilling family drama about guilt and forgiveness, a gripping quest for love and reconciliation.

Directed by Michel Sluysmans, Toneelgroep Maastricht is bringing this masterpiece to the Parktheater. And the cast is irresistible. Vrijdag will be performed by Fedja van Huêt, Anniek Pheifer, Sander Plukaard and Frieda Barnhard.

It's Friday afternoon. Georges Vermeersch (Van Huêt) comes home after being released early from prison. He has been convicted of having sex with his daughter who has left for the big city. His wife Jeanne (Pheifer) has found comfort in Georges' absence with his best friend -and neighbor- Erik and has recently given birth to a daughter. This is the starting point of a story in which guilt and forgiveness, love and friendship, sacrifice and despair compete for precedence.

Four individuals craving love and solace in a present tainted by the past. Claus describes with great compassion the attempts of Georges and Jeanne to rebuild their meager existence in the present and to battle against the future. That can only be done together. Ultimately, Vrijdag is a comforting plea for forgiveness, for hope and for love.
