Theater makers Anoek Nuyens and Rebekka de Wit make socially engaged, documentary theater and have been closely following the climate debate for years. The pair wrote a plea for each vote in the debate. All those voices come together in De zaak Shell. Based on the real-life lawsuit brought by the independent NGO Milieudefensie against the oil giant.
The oil giant Shell is responsible for enormous greenhouse gas emissions: twice as many as the whole of the Netherlands put together. Focal point of the case: force Shell to radically change its business operations. Milieudefensie calls on citizens to join as co-plaintiffs in this case. In the play De zaak Shell, we see how cleverly everyone in the debate shifts responsibility to a different party.
Anoek Nuyens and Rebekka de Wit give the audience an ultimate plea, so that everyone can better understand and play their own role in the climate debate. Because the world is in the hands of the one with the best script and the most form-fitting costume.
