Vogelvrij (literally translated it means 'free as a bird' but it actually means 'outlawed') is a multimedia performance featuring refugees who have no residence permit. Many are here 'illegally', in some cases for years. They live in a parallel world, since without a residence permit, you may not attend school or have a job. You are deprived of all sorts of social infrastructures and in fact sentenced to do nothing. Your life is put on hold. But can a human being actually be 'illegal' And who decides that? Vogelvrij gives these people a face and a name. Through video projections, theatrical walking tours and interactive performances, we aim to connect neighbourhood residents with each other, remove prejudices and close the chasm between these parallel worlds.
Daytime and evening programma
The daytime programme consists of a theatrical walking tour and interactive performance. The evening programme consists of the 'iftar to go' (meal) and a tour of all the video portraits. There are other activities in place in which you can take part throughout the day.
