Two young people are done with reality. What fun is there? Peace out, they continue online. Is online better than real life? Visitors can communicate directly with each other during and after the performance. Will you meet your online match afterwards?

Ras and Boh spend whole days and nights online: TikTok challenges, beauty trend vids, DIY tutorials, memes; cruising together for hours through GTA6, the two of them in the flow. At least away from IRL: that whole dictatorial outside world full of panicky parents invading your room, jaded teachers trying to instill useless knowledge, and a whole army of adults showing you mostly HOW YOU DON'T WANT TO BE. But 24/7 online, is that it? Are you going to convince Ras and Boh to come back to IRL, or would you rather join them?

A new tech performance about online and offline encounters, with matching app. The impact of new media and technology on our lives is profound. De Toneelmakerij previously made two performances about growing up in the digital age: Snowflake (2019) and Rabbit Hole (2023). In Rabbit Hole, we experimented with a new form of direct digital interaction. With In Real Life, we take the next step in producing innovative and bold tech performances.

About De Toneelmakerij
De Toneelmakerij previously made Silver Cricket winner Rabbit Hole about growing up in the digital age. NRC wrote: 'Rarely do you, as an adult, get such direct insight into the dialogue between teenagers' (★★★★). In In Real Life (IRL) , the Toneelmakerij also experiments with direct digital interaction: an app pairs you with a fellow audience member with whom you play mini-games and work together to score points. Will you meet your online match afterwards? After each performance, there is an afterword about the blurring of boundaries between offline and online relationships: recognizable for teens, instructive for teachers or parents.
