In F*CK LOLITA director Silke van Kamp rewrites Nabokov's classic from the female perspective. Lolita reclaims her own story and body, not as a victim, but as a woman fighting her way out of the grip of the male eye.

How does a young woman discover her sexuality? And who gets to tell about it? Director Silke van Kamp has a fascination with Nabokov's scandalous 1955 novel Lolita , in which a young woman is deprived of her exploration of sexual fantasies and cravings. For decades, Lolita has past event portrayed as a romanticized sex object and countless versions of her story have appeared. After 70 years, Silke Nabokov's literary classic turns it radically inside out and reshapes the story from the female perspective in F*CK LOLITA. Lolita steps out of the cage of lust object and claims back her story and body. Not as a victim of abuse, but as someone fighting her way out of the grip of the male perspective.

With text by Annet Bremen (nomination Toneelschrijfprijs 2023), F*CK LOLITA creates a whimsical, meaningful, and complex duet between Lolita and Humbert Humbert. Lolita claims her artwork back: about herself, as herself.

Director on F*CK LOLITA
"From a young age I was curious about sexuality and feelings in love and the pursuit of them. You want to be able to fantasize about that carefree without anyone seeing it as an unintended invitation. In this performance, I want to explore both the raw beauty of young female sexuality and the taboo on it. Let's talk about this." - Silke van Kamp

The media about F*CK LOLITA
"Fantastic theater performance! A sharp, powerful monologue by Het Zuidelijk Toneel in which twelve-year-old Dolores (Lolita) is interpreted by an incomparable Keja Klaasje Kwestro." (NRC ★★★★★)

  • Note: F*CK LOLITA describes the sexual abuse of a minor. This can be experienced as violent

"A resounding one-woman symphony; a complex portrait of a woman reclaiming her story. As funny as it is devastating."

- De Volkskrant

Silke van Kamp
Silke van Kamp is a theater and film director. This dual skill makes her work rich. In 2019, she was nominated for the BNG-Bank theater award with her graduation performance Chimo Zei Lila. Her work is typified by its layeredness, raw edge, humor and an affinity for the visual arts. She likes to look for inspiration in the dark corners of society where we hide what is difficult or threatening. By illuminating a widely held idea, an assumption or the norm from a different perspective, she gives it a new value.

Het Zuidelijk Toneel
Het Zuidelijk Het Zuidelijk Toneel is the company of the South and from its home town of Tilburg it tours throughout the Netherlands and Flanders. The smallest to largest play arenas are stormed by the new permanent ensemble of six real playwrights. These are cheered rather than tamed by the company's first female artistic director Sarah Moeremans. Together with a colorful gang of in-house directors, Het Zuidelijk Toneel creates performances that excite, move and recharge you with new energy. Just like the successful productions Een Leuk Avondje Uit, Crashtest Ibsen and Shut Up and Play with Me, which became favorites with both press and public.
